Resources and FAQs
Page 1 (links verified 1/17/11)

As I said in the beginning, I am no expert. So in that light, I want to ensure you have more than just me on which to base decisions. I am providing the links to places I think will help (out of the billions). I have looked at all of them. The links are in no particular order within each list.

You will have to look at the menu for the rest of the lists that are not on this page. In addition, the support groups and such are in Support Resources.

BOOKS

I have to comment at this point. As you go through the list of books and articles, you must have noticed the repeated books. I wish I could say that everyone lists them because they are the best selection from the many choices. I know several are pretty good for having read them, but the fact is, there is only a limited number of books in the first place.

In addition, you noticed the sites I provided are selling the books. I will not comment on prices--that is your responsibility.

Respected Authorities on Transgender Issues

  • Anne Lawrence, M.D. has medical and other resources for transsexual women (Male-to-Female). Anne has a very complete site and so, I am not going to post many MtF links.

  • The Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association, Inc. (HBIGDA), now known as WPATH is a professional organization devoted to the understanding and treatment of gender identity disorders.

  • Surveys This is not exactly a link to the experts, but it is a link to a survey for TGs and their relations. Please take some time and complete the survey.

  • Gender Test Center Jennifer Diane Reitz has done a nice job on her website on transsexuality. However, I am just including the tests/surveys page for now.

  • TS Road Map This map is from Andrea James. Andrea states, "This site is about passing and about being able to exercise the option of 'stealth.' There are people in our community who disagree with the very notion of wanting to pass, but based on the 6,000 letters I've answered in the last two years, I can say with confidence that a large segment of the TS community thinks passing is extremely important."

  • Linda's TS GRS List She has a couple links I have plus a lot more. In addition, she has Transition Experiences, testimonials.

  • TG Therapy Blunders "This educational column is authored by Gianna E. Israel and is regularly featured on the 3rd Monday of each month in TG-Forum..."

  • The New Sex Change Indigo Pages (are missing) - "The Indigo Pages are intended to be a set of non-judgmental, informational pages relating to surgeons who perform sex changes and products needed by those who undergo sex change surgery. There are surgeons here whose credibility and skills I question. This is, however, simply opinion, and I will try not to let my opinion enter into this. I hope that anyone who uses these pages to try to find a surgeon will thoroughly research a number of surgeons, before determining who is the best for him or her."

  • Counseling for Clients Dealing with Gender Identity Issues by Erin K. Swenson, Th.M., Ph.D. -- "For a person struggling with gender issues counseling can be a bewildering experience. While educated and sensitive counseling can be supportive and valuable, many transgender individuals have been misunderstood, manipulated, and abused by counselors."

  • http://www.genderweb.org/medical/psych/rolecn.html (appears to be missing): The Role of the Counselor -- "I may step on some professional toes in this guide since I am referring to the mental health professional working with the transsexual client as a counselor rather than a therapist. This may seem like a minor distinction, but I think it is an important one. What we call ourselves colors how we view the client. Therapy implies that the client is sick and needs to be cured or at least he needs to have his "disease" controlled or 'managed.'"

  • World Professional Association for Transgender Health -- "The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), formerly known as the (Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association, HBIGDA), is a professional organization devoted to the understanding and treatment of gender identity disorders." Their mission, "As an international multidisciplinary professional Association the mission of WPATH is to promote evidence based care, education, research, advocacy, public policy and respect in transgender health."
